John Isner becomes the fourth American to reach round four of the US Open with victory over Alex Bogomolov Jr.

American John Isner defeated compatriot Alex Bogomolov Jr 7-6 [11/9] 6-4 6-4 to advance into the last 16 at the US Open yesterday evening.

The 26-year-old served 17 aces on his way to victory in New York as Bogomolov Jr struggled to cope with Isner's powerful service game.

Isner's progression means that there are four Americans in round four, matching the record set in 2003.

The 28th-seeded Isner will take on Gilles Simon in the next round after the Frenchman defeated former champion Juan Martin Del Potro in the third round.
