Jamie Murray, John Peers suffer defeat in US Open final

Jamie Murray and John Peers fall at the final hurdle in the second successive Grand Slam as Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert win 6-4 6-4 in the US Open final.

Britain's Jamie Murray has suffered disappointment at the US Open after he and John Peers lost 6-4 6-4 to Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut in the men's doubles final.

Murray and his Australian partner missed opportunities to secure what would have been a vital break in the opening set, and they paid the price when Peers was broken to love to hand the advantage to the 12th seeds.

French duo Herbert and Mahut punished their opponents with some fantastic net play throughout the match, but the second set proved to be a tight affair as the first nine games went with serve without a break point opportunity arriving.

It was Herbert and Mahut who finally secured two match points, and after failing to convert at the first attempt, a dramatic rally finished with Herbert clinching the victory at the net.

Murray and Peers were also beaten finalists at Wimbledon in the summer, while Mahut and Herbert have triumphed in a Grand Slam for the first time after losing in the Australian Open final.
