Jamie Murray, John Peers open with win in doubles

Wimbledon finalists Jamie Murray and John Peers begin their attempt to win the US Open with a routine win over Bjorn Fratangelo and Dennis Novikov.

Jamie Murray and John Peers have breezed through to the second round of the men's doubles at the US Open.

The eighth seeds, who reached the final at Wimbledon in July, beat American duo Bjorn Fratangelo and Dennis Novikov 6-3 6-2.

If Murray and Peers can reach the latter stages at Flushing Meadows, they could effectively seal their place at the ATP Tour Finals in London, and they showed their confidence with an impressive display on Wednesday.

They dropped just six points behind their first serve to ensure that they remained in control of the match, as well as breaking three times on the way to victory in under an hour.

Santiago Giraldo and Rameez Junaid will be their opponents in the next round.
