Karolina Pliskova has made it into the last 16 of the US Open for the first time after overcoming Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets.
The 11th seed needed an hour-and-a-quarter to progress through a 6-2 6-4 winner, bettering her previous best finish here of a third-round exit in 2011.
Pavlyuchenkova lost her first two service games of the match, allowing Pliskova to race three games ahead and eventually ease into an opening-set victory.
The Czech ace made life tough for herself in the second set, as both players struggled to hold on to their serve in the first three games at Flushing Meadows, but Pliskova steadied herself and managed to get the job done to progress through.
Pliskova, into the second week of a Grand Slam for the first time, will face either Laura Siegemund or Venus Williams in the next round.
