Result: David Ferrer through to second round in four sets

Spaniard David Ferrer has progressed through to the second round of the US Open with a four sets victory over Igor Andreev.

Despite beginning the match as favourite, 29-year-old Ferrer dropped the first set 2-6 to his Russian opponent.

However, Ferrer hit back thereafter, taking the next three sets 6-3 6-0 6-4.

The 29-year-old will now take on either James Blake or Jesse Huta Galung in the next round.
