James Ward and Elena Baltacha are through to the second round of US Open qualifying, but Johanna Konta will not be playing in the Flushing Meadows tournament.
British number two Ward beat Frenchman Jonathan Eysseric 6-3 6-1 to move a step closer to joining defending champion and compatriot Andy Murray on the men's side of the draw.
Baltacha is also two more wins away from competing in the final Grand Slam of the year following a hard-fought, three-set victory over American Melanie Oudin.
However, a 7-5 6-4 defeat by Australia's Olivia Rogowska, ranked 40 places below her in the world rankings, has seen Konta, world number 112, knocked out before the tournament proper.
Dan Evans, Tara Moore and Samantha Murray are the other British competitors vying to advance to the New York major, which begins next week.
