Briton Tara Moore puts up brave fight in Svetlana Kuznetsova defeat

British interest in the women's singles at Wimbledon ends as Tara Moore is defeated by Russian 13th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round.

Tara Moore has become the final British woman to be knocked out of the 2016 Wimbledon Championships after falling to a 6-1 2-6 6-3 defeat at the hands of Svetlana Kuznetsova in the second round.

The 23-year-old, ranked 227th in the world, had never faced a top-20 player before but proved a match for the 13th seed after working her way into the contest.

Moore fell 4-0 behind as the 31-year-old Russian swept through the first set either side of a rain delay, but roared on by the crowd, she began to get a foothold in the rallies, breaking serve three times and levelling at one set all.

The Briton then recovered an early break in the decider to trail 4-3 but Kuznetsova was ultimately able to close out the win and progress to the next round.
