Laura Robson out in Wimbledon first round

Former British number one Laura Robson suffers a straight-sets defeat to Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round at Wimbledon.

Laura Robson has suffered a first-round exit at Wimbledon after losing in straight sets to Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The former British number one had required a wildcard to make another appearance at SW19, but she fell to a 6-4 6-2 defeat to the Brazilian.

Robson dropped serve in her opening service game and Haddad Maia was able to hold relatively comfortably throughout the remainder of the first set.

It was a similar story in the second as the 23-year-old found herself a break behind during the early stages and Haddad Maia had the opportunity to see out the contest at 5-2.

Robson battled on valiantly as she saved four match points but Haddad Maia was eventually able to progress through to the second round in just over an hour.
