England secure triathlon team relay gold

England win gold in the mixed team relay event at the Commonwealth Games.

The team of Alistair Brownlee, Jonny Brownlee, Vicky Holland and Jodie Stimpson have secured triathlon gold for England in the mixed team relay.

Alistair Brownlee completed the last of four sprint triathlon legs to claim first place, with South Africa and Australia taking second and third respectively.

First up for England was Jonathan Brownlee, who racked up a nine-second lead midway through his run, while that lead extended to 16 seconds at the halfway point of the race.

Holland and Stimpson maintained the lead before the latter handed over to Alistair Brownlee, who appeared to stray out of the changeover box when being passed the baton, though no penalty was awarded.

Brownlee built up a one-minute advantage over the pack at the bike stage of the relay, and crossed over the line to take another gold for his country in Glasgow.
