Defending figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na won't pay "much attention" to Russian rival

Defending figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na says that she will not pay "too much attention" to rising Russian star Julia Lipnitskaia ahead of the defence of her title.

Reigning figure skating champion Kim Yu-Na has said that she will not pay "too much attention" to Russia's Julia Lipnitskaia ahead of the defence of her title.

The South Korean skater is bidding to become just the third woman to win back-to-back golds in the event, but faces stiff competition from the 15-year-old.

Kim told the Games' official website: "It doesn't help me to pay too much attention to how others perform. What's most important is getting the scores I have targeted.

"Unlike [Lipnitskaia], this is my last Olympics bid so it's different for me."

Lipnitskaia became the youngest female figure skater to win a gold in 78 years when she competed in the team event earlier in the Games.
