American skier Lindsey Vonn breaks record with 63rd World Cup victory

American skier Lindsey Vonn sets a new World Cup record by claiming her 63rd triumph in Italy.

American skier Lindsey Vonn has written her name into the history books by claiming her 63rd World Cup victory.

The 30-year-old finished 0.85s ahead of Anna Fenninger in the super-G race on Monday at the Olympia delle Tofane course in Italy.

Vonn has surpassed Annemarie Moser-Proll's record of 62 World Cup triumphs, which she held for 35 years.

"I know it's a big achievement, but I have to focus on the skiing," The AP quotes Vonn as saying. "I can't let everyone else's expectations get into my head.

"So that was my goal, just trying to ski my best, and I thought I did a really good job."

Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark holds the men's World Cup record of 86 victories.
