Jon Eley: 'Elise Christie will become stronger following disqualification'

Team GB speed skater Jon Eley says that being disqualified for a third time at the Sochi Games will make Elise Christie "a lot stronger".

Great Britain's Jon Eley has offered his support to compatriot Elise Christie following the speed skater's third disqualification of the Sochi Games.

Christie was penalised following a trip with China's Li Jianrou at the semi-final stage.

However, Eley, who himself failed to qualify for the men's 500m final today, believes that the ordeal will make the 23-year-old stronger.

"I didn't see Elise Christie's race as I was preparing for my B final," Eley told BBC Sport. "It's upsetting for the team but this will make her a lot stronger.

"She has had some unlucky times but she is a great racer and I think she will come back in four years time and win the gold medal."

Team GB have won four medals so far at the Games.
