Jack Whelbourne consoles Elise Christie after losing silver medal

Great Britain short track skater Jack Whelbourne sends an encouraging tweet to Elise Christie, who was stripped of a speed skating silver medal earlier today.

Great Britain short track skater Jack Whelbourne has sent an encouraging tweet to fellow athlete Elise Christie, who was stripped of a silver medal in the short track 500m women's speed skating final earlier today.

During her first lap, the 23-year-old nudged into Italy's Arianna Fontana, who in turn wiped out South Korea's Park Sueng-Hi in the process.

Whelbourne, who is dating the Livingston-born speed skater, tweeted a message of encouragement to his distraught girlfriend, who was penalised for the incident and saw the silver medal taken off her.

China's Li Janrou won the gold medal, while Fontana was moved up to second place following Christie's disqualification. Park took bronze.ID:137738: cacheID:137738:1false2false3false:QQ:: from db desktop :LenBod:restore:2336:
