Lolo Jones happy to be Winter Olympics underdog

Former hurdler turned American bobsleigh athlete Lolo Jones is relieved to be the underdog for a change and hopes that it may work to her advantage in Sochi 2014.

Lolo Jones is relieved to be the underdog for a change and hopes that it may work to America's advantage in the women's bobsled at the Winter Olympics

The former 100m hurdler was among the favourites for gold in the Beijing and London Games, but came away empty handed on both occasions.

She and partner Jazmine Fenlator are not expected to medal at Sochi 2014, but Jones has watched outsiders win already this year in Russia, which suggests that a podium finish should not be ruled out.

"This is the Olympics of the underdogs," Jones told reporters. "You think about everybody who was supposed to medal who didn't medal and then you think about just so many people who have kind of come up and got a first medal. It's been a really weird Olympics.

"You go down the line like Shaun White, Shani Davis, who else we have, Heather [Richardson] ... it's been definitely a year of the underdogs. I've never seen anything like it."

Jones finished fourth in the final of the 100m hurdles at the London 2012 Olympics.
