AC Milan chief executive Ivan Gazidis is reportedly trying to talk the club out of making a move for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

AC Milan officials Paolo Maldini and Ivan Gazidis have reportedly clashed over the club's proposed move for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.

The Italian side have been touted as a possible destination for Ozil, who is out of favour at the Emirates Stadium after going more than three weeks since last appearing.

Prior to leaving Arsenal last year, Gazidis signed off on a new contract worth £350,000 a week for the Germany international - wages no interested club are willing to match.

Milan are refusing to rule out a move for the 30-year-old, though, and Corriere dello Sport claims that talk of his future is causing tension behind the scenes at San Siro.

Chief executive Gazidis, who spent a decade at Arsenal before leaving for Milan, is said to be firmly against the idea of signing Ozil, whereas iconic player Maldini - now working as sporting strategy and development director - is of an opposite opinion.

Arsenal are believed to be willing to subsidise Ozil's wages to make the transfer more appealing to Milan.
