Luis Suarez's appeal against four-month ban begins

Barcelona striker Luis Suarez arrives at the Court of Arbitration for Sport headquarters to begin his appeal case against a four-month ban for biting.

Luis Suarez's appeal case against a four-month FIFA ban for biting has begun at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland today.

The 27-year-old, who joined Barcelona from Liverpool this summer in a reported £75m fee, was hit with the lengthy suspension after biting the shoulder of Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil.

Today, Suarez arrived at CAS's headquarters for the hearing with his legal team, who are confident that the Uruguyan's ban will be halved.

The ban from all football-related activity prevents Suarez from training with his new club, but the striker's legal representatives will argue that the suspension should be limited to just international matches, according to BBC Sport.

Suarez, who was also given a nine-game international ban, will be available to play from August 25 should his appeal be successful.

Numerous reports have claimed that the outcome could be delivered as early as today.
