Blackpool came from behind to beat Bristol City 3-1 in the Championship.

Blackpool came from behind to beat Bristol City 3-1 in the Championship this afternoon.

Both goalkeepers found themselves tested early on, City's Jon Stead being denied by Matt Gilks while David James was equal to Stephen Crainey's effort at the other end.

The breakthrough came after half an hour when Stead lashed the ball past Gilks after a goalmouth scramble in the Blackpool penalty area.

City were nearly two ahead early in the second half through Chris Woods, but his first effort was well blocked by Alex Baptiste and his second flashed just past the post.

Blackpool were level just five minutes later, albeit in fortunate circumstances. Thomas Ince's free kick took a wicked deflection, leaving James helpless in the City goal.

Ian Holloway's men left it late to grab their second, Brett Ormerod breaking away with five minutes of normal time left before finding Ince at the back post, who made no mistake.

The comeback was complete just a couple of minutes later when Crainey found Kevin Phillips, who put the result beyond doubt.

The result lifts Blackpool up to fourth in the Championship, while City remain perilously close to the relegation zone.
