Manchester United 'approach Mauricio Pochettino over becoming new manager'

A report claims that Manchester United have formally reached out to former Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino about replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Manchester United have reportedly approached Mauricio Pochettino over replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as their new manager.

Solskjaer's future has been plunged into further doubt on the back of successive defeats - to Arsenal in the Premier League and Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League.

The Red Devils are 15th in the top flight after six matches and have failed to win any of their opening four games at Old Trafford for the first time since 1972-73.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United chiefs have now decided that it is time to take action and have made their first move for top target Pochettino.

United will not have to pay Pochettino's former club Tottenham Hotspur any compensation as the deadline for any payment passed in May, six months after he was sacked.

Speaking after United's 2-1 loss in Istanbul on Wednesday, Solskjaer refused to comment on the speculation over his future.
