Former defender Rio Ferdinand encourages Manchester United to resolve the future of midfielder Paul Pogba as soon as possible.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Manchester United will only be able to progress as a club once they have resolved the future of Paul Pogba.

Despite having expressed a desire to leave Old Trafford last summer, Pogba has remained at United during the last two transfer windows.

However, the World Cup winner has missed much of the season due to an ankle injury, allowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to try to find solutions for the France international's absence.

While United brought in Bruno Fernandes in January, Ferdinand feels that the uncertainty surrounding Pogba will hold the North-West giants back unless they hold talks over his future.

Speaking to BT Sport, the ex-centre-back said: "I think that is a conversation that needs to be happening between Man Utd and Pogba.

"Does he want to stay or go? Does Ole want to keep him? Once that's ironed out you can build your team."

Ferdinand has also moved to defend goalkeeper David de Gea after the Spaniard's error against Everton at the weekend.
