UAE and Uruguay go into half-time all square after a Gaston Ramirez free kick five minutes before the break spares his side's blushes.

United Arab Emirates and Uruguay have gone into the half-time interval in their opening Olympic match all square at 1-1.

UAE had the first good chance of the match after just five minutes when Ahmed Khalil found Ismaeil Matar in the box, but his header went just wide.

Matar wouldn't have to wait long to get his name on the scoresheet, however, as he rounded keeper Martin Campana before slotting UAE into a shock lead.

Matar threatened once more shortly afterwards, but this time Campana did enough to deny the striker, before the UAE skipper sent another effort just over the bar.

Uruguay responded through Gaston Ramirez, who fired in a long-range free kick to level the sides just before the break to send the sides in at 1-1.
