Aberdeen fans group calls for Derek McInnes exit

The Dons' Supporters Together group say that the position of Derek McInnes has become 'untenable', with the Aberdeen boss being strongly linked with Rangers.

Dons' Supporters Together chairman Scott Barclay has suggested that Aberdeen should allow boss Derek McInnes to complete a switch to Rangers.

Since the exit of Pedro Caixinha, McInnes has been one of a number of names linked with the vacant position at Ibrox and in recent days, the former Rangers midfielder has been the subject of interest from the Glasgow giants.

The approach has led to McInnes not continuing his duties with Aberdeen, and Barclay says that McInnes's failure to immediately reject their advances has led to his position becoming untenable.

Barclay told BBC Scotland: "I fully expect that [McInnes] won't be taking his press conference today or in charge of the team on Friday night. Derek's a very clever man and he's managed the media as best as he could but there is one man in this whole situation that could have killed [the speculation] and that is Derek McInnes.

"His failure to come out and nail this down pretty much makes it clear he's waiting for things to be tidied up. Fans are tearing each other apart over the whole thing and it's not our making, or the club's.

"He's been backed to the hilt and given money to spend; considerably more than anyone in a long time. He was rewarded with a new contract after the Sunderland situation but here we go again."

McInnes has been at Aberdeen since April 2013, with 128 victories coming from his 222 matches in charge at Pittodrie.
