Villarreal strike late to beat Almeria

Villarreal score two goals in the final six minutes to come from 2-1 down to win 3-2 against Almeria in a match between two newly-promoted sides.

Villarreal scored twice in the last six minutes to steal a 3-2 win from the jaws of defeat against fellow La Liga newcomers Almeria this evening.

The first real chance of the match fell to the hosts just before the half-hour mark, but Aleix Vidal's goalbound shot was well blocked by Mateo Musacchio.

Almeria did get the opening goal a little over 10 minutes later, however, as on-loan Liverpool winger Suso found Rodri, who slid the ball past Sergio Asenjo.

Villarreal toiled away for an equaliser and eventually found it in the 65th minute, when Jonathan Pereira's strike found the bottom corner via a big deflection off Sebastian Dubarbier.

The visitors could have completed a quick-fire comeback just three minutes after restoring parity, but Tomas Pina blasted the ball high and wide when well placed.

Instead, it was Almeria who got the next goal as Rodri beat the offside trap before smashing the ball past the keeper from close range.

Villarreal hit back once again, however, when Giovani dos Santos was given space inside the box to sweep the ball into the bottom corner.

The visitors then completed a dramatic late turnaround by taking the lead for the first time in the match with just four minutes remaining. Giovani was again involved as he set up Pereira, who made no mistake from close range.
