Wembley Stadium is confirmed as the host venue for the 'Finalissima' clash between Italy and Argentina on June 1.

Wembley Stadium has been confirmed as the host venue for the 'Finalissima' clash between Italy and Argentina on June 1.

At the end of last year, UEFA and CONMEBOL announced that they signed a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) until June 2028, a partnership to promote the development and growth of football in both Europe and South America.

This agreement will see three intercontinental matches take place, with the first to be held at London's iconic Wembley Stadium between reigning Euro 2020 holders Italy and the current Copa America winners Argentina.

The 'Finalissima' encounter on June 1 will be the first time the fixture has taken place since 1993 when Diego Maradona's Argentina side won the title on penalties against 1992 Euros winners Denmark.

Roberto Mancini and his Italian team will return to Wembley where they beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 final on July 11, 2021, just a day after Argentina beat South American rivals Brazil to claim their first Copa America title since 1993.

Italy's most recent meeting with Argentina was in March 2018, which saw La Albiceleste win 2-0 in an international friendly at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium.
