Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny's proposed move to Galatasaray has fallen through due to his £2.1m yearly salary demands, according to a report.

Mohamed Elneny's proposed exit from Arsenal to Turkey has reportedly collapsed due to the Egyptian's wage demands.

The former Basel man featured regularly under Mikel Arteta during the 2020-21 season but has fallen further down the pecking order with the summer arrival of Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Elneny did not secure an expected transfer away from Arsenal before the English transfer window shut on Tuesday, but he has been tipped to complete a move to Besiktas or Galatasaray before the Super Lig window closes on September 8.

However, Turkish outlet Milliyet claims that the midfielder was after a yearly €2.5m (£2.1m) pay packet on a four-year deal - a figure which Galatasaray were unwilling to match.

The report adds that president Burak Elmas pulled the plug on a deal after learning of Elneny's salary demands, and Arsenal will instead seek to offload the 29-year-old in January.

Elneny has amassed five goals and eight assists in 132 appearances for Arsenal since arriving in January 2016, and he is contracted to the Gunners until next summer.
