Kevin Nolan double wins it for West Ham United

Kevin Nolan scores two quick goals after half time as West Ham United move out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win against Aston Villa.

West Ham United beat Aston Villa 2-0 at Villa Park to move out of the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Kevin Nolan's quickfire double after the break was enough for the Hammers, who moved up to 14th in the division.

Stewart Downing had the Hammers' best chance of the first half when he went through on goal, but the former Liverpool winger was denied by Ryan Bertrand who collided with the post after he stopped the effort.

Fabian Delph went close with a 25-yard effort for the Villans after Leandro Bacuna had earlier taken a heavy touch when trying to free Christian Benteke.

Ashley Westwood had Villa's best chance of the half when he went close with a volley shortly before the break.

Two goals in quick succession undid Villa after the restart, and Nolan grabbed his first when his backheel beat Brad Guzan.

The midfielder scored his fourth in two games moments later when he robbed Delph of the ball before slotting home.

Benteke put a great chance wide of the post with a header towards the end of the game as Villa pressed to get back into the game.
