Half-Time Report: Borussia Dortmund peg back Hoffenheim in first half

Mats Hummels cancels out a Kevin Volland strike as Hoffenheim and Borussia Dortmund reach the break level at 1-1.

Mats Hummels has ensured that Borussia Dortmund are level at 1-1 against Hoffenheim at half time at the Rhein-Neckar Arena.

Hoffenheim could have been ahead inside the opening five minutes, but Anthony Modeste could only miscue his effort straight at Mitchell Langerak after reaching a cross in the box.

Chances were difficult to come by for Dortmund, who recovered from a sluggish start as Hoffenheim continued to look bright going forward.

The returning Kevin Volland threatened to break the deadlock when he found space in the Dortmund defence before firing a shot inches wide of the post.

However, Volland made no mistake with his next chance as he collected a clever pass from Pirmin Schwegler and slotted past a helpless Langerak.

Hoffenheim's lead lasted less than three minutes as Dortmund hit back through Hummels, who punished some poor marking by heading home from Henrikh Mkhitaryan's corner.
