Borussia Monchengladbach maintain perfect home start

Raffael scores twice as Borussia Monchengladbach continue their 100% home start to the Bundesliga season with a 4-1 thrashing of Eintracht Braunschweig.

Borussia Monchengladbach thrashed Eintracht Braunschweig 4-1 at Stadion im Borussia-Park tonight to maintain their 100% home start to the Bundesliga season.

Raffael netted either side of half time, while Oscar Wendt and Max Kruse were also on the scoresheet as Die Fohlen inflicted a fifth defeat of the campaign on their bottom-of-the-table opponents.

Wendt opened the scoring on 22 minutes with an individual effort in which he broke from left-back before cutting inside and firing a low shot past Marjan Petkovic.

Gladbach's advantage was doubled before the interval when Raffael bagged his first of the evening, heading in following a team move involving Kruse and Juan Arango.

There was a brief scare for the hosts when Braunschweig were rewarded for their positive start to the second half, as Mirko Boland converted from Karim Bellarabi's fizzing low cross on 58 minutes.

However, any thoughts of a comeback from the visitors were put to bed when Kruse restored Gladbach's two-goal cushion from the penalty spot, after Arango was pulled down in the box.

The scoring was complete when Brazilian midfielder Raffael pounced on the rebound from Kruse's shot on 79 minutes to net Gladbach's 11th goal of what has been a perfect start to their campaign on home soil.
