Late Scott Dann header rescues Crystal Palace against Bournemouth

Scott Dann's injury-time header rescues Crystal Palace as they come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at Selhurst Park in the Premier League.

Scott Dann's injury-time header rescued Crystal Palace as they came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth in the Premier League this afternoon.

Joshua King's first-half finish appeared likely to be enough to hand the Cherries their first victory of the new campaign, but Dann rose late on to meet a cross from Jason Puncheon and prevent his side from falling to a third straight defeat of the season.

Bournemouth started the game at a blistering pace and they took an early lead in the 11th minute, as King broke in behind to receive a clever through-ball from Harry Arter, before lashing emphatically beyond Steve Mandanda.

Palace were not at the races in the opening half, but they were provided with the perfect chance to find a foothold in the game when Christian Benteke won a penalty against Charlie Daniels, only for Yohan Cabaye to see his kick saved by a diving Artur Boruc.

The home side could not keep up with the consistency of Bournemouth's forward movement and they should have been made to pay again, this time as King combined well with Callum Wilson, although the latter saw his shot stopped by an on-rushing Mandanda.

Such was Palace's retreat from the contest, the hosts gave away far too many needless free kicks and could have gone into the break 2-0 down, as Jordon Ibe bent his set piece a fraction wide of the top corner on the stroke of half time.

Pardew's charges were much improved after the break and their upturn almost bore fruit, but Dann was thwarted by the frame of the goal as his header from a corner came straight back off the base of the post.

The hosts continued to press for an equaliser as Wilfried Zaha was introduced, and the winger made an instant impact after almost squeezing the ball over the line following a scramble inside the away box.

The Cherries might have given themselves a bit of breathing room late on as they soaked up the mounting pressure, but Ryan Fraser was unable to bundle Adam Smith's delivery home on the counter with just under five minutes remaining.

Palace never gave up hope despite the ticking clock and they reaped their rewards in injury time when an inspired Puncheon found Dann in the box, leaving the defender to send a bullet header beyond a stranded Boruc to leave the final score at 1-1.
