Chelsea mount comeback against Southampton

Second-half goals from John Terry, Gary Cahill and Demba Ba give Chelsea a 3-1 win against Southampton.

Chelsea have come from a goal down to beat Southampton 3-1 in the Premier League.

Jay Rodriguez's goal after just 13 seconds gave the Saints the half-time lead.

The recently-capped England forward latched onto Michael Essien's poor back-pass to fire past Petr Cech in the Chelsea goal.

Second-half goals from John Terry, Gary Cahill and Demba Ba turned it around for Jose Mourinho's men as they closed the gap on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League to four points.

Eden Hazard had a chance for the Blues early in the first period, but his shot was charged down inside the area by the Southampton defence.

Mourinho's side probed for the equaliser in the first half, but were unable to break down Southampton's typically stubborn resistance.

Oscar had a chance just before the interval but his header was comfortably held by Artur Boruc following good work from Fernando Torres.

Torres then head a header of his own saved by Boruc as Mourinho's men went in a goal down at the break.

However, the Blues defenders came to the rescue after the restart with Cahill turning home after a goalmouth scramble on 55 minutes.

Terry gave Chelsea the lead with a wonderful arching header seven minutes later after Boruc went off injured for Paulo Gazzaniga.

Ba should have wrapped it up after 72 minutes, but the former Newcastle United man dragged his left-footed shot wide of the mark.

However, Ba had his moment as the game entered stoppage time when he squeezed a low effort into the corner.
