Dwight Gayle has claimed that the competition for places could be vital as Crystal Palace look to secure their Premier League status for another season.
The Eagles were the busiest club in the January transfer window as Alan Pardew welcomed Jordon Mutch, Pape Souare, Yaya Sanogo, Lee Chung-yong and Shola Ameobi to Selhurst Park as well as securing a permanent deal for Wilfried Zaha.
"It's great that there is so much depth here," Gayle, who has scored five goals in the league this season, told reporters. "There is a real fight to play and you know you have to be on top of your game. I have confidence in myself.
"Starting games gives you a bit more confidence as the manager shows he believes in you. It gives you a boost."
Palace travel to the King Power Stadium to meet Leicester City on Saturday.
