Preview: Fortuna Sittard vs. Vitesse - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Eredivisie clash between Fortuna Sittard and Vitesse, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Round 14 of the 2023-24 Eredivisie season sees Fortuna Sittard and Vitesse go head-to-head at the Fortuna Sittard Stadion on Saturday evening.

Both teams were beaten in their respective last outings, and they will be looking to get themselves back on track by securing all three points this weekend.

Match preview

Fortuna Sittard fell to a disappointing 3-0 defeat against Heerenveen in Saturday's encounter between the sides at the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

Danny Buijs's men went into the interval trailing thanks to Thom Haye's penalty, after which second-half goals from Haye and Ion Nicolaescu sealed the deal.

Consequently, the Fortunezen have dropped down to 12th place in the Eredivisie table and are now just a point clear of the relegation zone.

Coming up next is the challenge of an opposing outfit who were beaten in both of last season's league meetings by a combined score of 4-1.

Unbeaten in five of their most recent six home outings, Saturday's hosts will be confident of picking up another positive result in front of their fans.

Vitesse were left red-faced in their game against Ajax following a comprehensive 5-0 thrashing at the Johan Cruyff ArenA on Saturday night.

First-half strikes from Jorrel Hato and Kristian Hlynsson left Edward Sturing's men with a mountain to climb at half time before second-half goals from Chuba Akpom, Kenneth Taylor and a Dominik Oroz put the outcome beyond doubt.

Having picked up eight points from 13 matches so far, Geel en Zwart remain rooted to the bottom of the standings, four points adrift of safety.

Off the back of 10 goals conceded across their last two outings on the road, Saturday's visitors will be wary of suffering another humbling defeat away from home.

Inigo Cordoba has wasted no time slotting into Fortuna's XI since his comeback, and the 26-year-old is expected to retain his starting place.

We say: Fortuna Sittard 2-1 Vitesse

Vitesse have the second-worst defensive record in the league, and it is hard to see them coming away with a clean sheet here. We are tipping Fortuna to see off the threat of their visitors and come away with maximum points in the end.
