Preview: Getafe vs. Granada - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Granada, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two teams in the bottom half of the table meet in La Liga action as Getafe welcome Granada to the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Thursday evening.

The hosts' unbeaten run in the league ended last time out and they remain on the cusp of the relegation zone, whilst the visitors have an unbeaten run of their own which is still ongoing.

Getafe have looked to be recovering from their shocking start to the campaign - seven consecutive losses from the season-opener and no win until their 12th game - in recent weeks.

They had gone six games without a defeat and even managed a 1-0 win against the mighty Real Madrid in the last of those six, as Enes Unal's ninth-minute goal proved to be enough for victory.

The wheels came off in the following game, however, as the Deep Blue Ones were on the other end of the same scoreline away at Sevilla after a piece of magic from Rafa Mir.

That saw Quique Sanchez Flores's side slip back down to 17th in the table, and they are now just one point above Alaves in the relegation zone.

The former two-time Watford boss will see their upcoming opponents as a potential opportunity for points, but Getafe have not won any of the last four meetings between the two.

Granada avoided a case of 'second-season syndrome' last campaign, having returned to the top tier in 2019, but also struggled as this season began.

They required eight attempts to find a win and followed a similar pattern of results to Thursday's hosts, starting their own unbeaten streak at around the same time.

The Nasrids did not see their run end last time out, though, as they rescued a point late on at home to Barcelona.

Luuk de Jong had given the Catalan giants the lead in the 57th minute, but after 17-year-old Gavi received the first red card of his professional career, Granada were able to hit back through Antonio Puertas in the 89th minute for a valuable point.

That point means they now sit 13th, comfortably in mid-table and six points above their next opponents.

Team News

Getafe's Sabit Abdulai and Jose Macias miss out through knee and muscle injuries respectively.

Sandro Ramirez should be suitably recovered from his COVID-19 infection, however, and will return to a front two alongside Unal if so.

Mauro Arambarri and Mathias Olivera should both start after returning from suspension.

For the visitors, Santiago Arias is ruled out with a leg injury and a date for his return has not been revealed by the club.

Ruben Rochina was not in the squad for the game against Barcelona and, whilst he has now recovered from COVID-19 is likely unavailable due to an ankle injury.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Mitrovic, Dakonam, Cuenca; Suarez, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Alena, Olivera; Unal, Ramirez

Granada possible starting lineup:
Maximiano; Quini, Duarte, Torrente, Neva; Puertas, Milla, Gonalons, Machis; Molina, Suarez

We say: Getafe 1-1 Granada

This should be a closely-fought contest and the result could easily go either way. Granada travel to Madrid on the back of a fine performance in matchday 20 which will have increased their confidence further and we are backing them to extend their unbeaten run to eight games, but not to take all three points.
