Leonid Slutsky: "Our plan worked"

Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky attributes his side's 6-1 thumping of Birmingham City to a well-executed plan.

Hull City manager Leonid Slutsky has attributed his side's 6-1 thumping of Birmingham City today to a well-executed plan.

The Tigers have endured a topsy-turvy season under Slutsky to date, and were on the wrong end of a 5-0 thrashing at Derby County just three weeks ago, but ran riot over struggling Brum at the KCOM today.

"I think we were very close to this quality in a lot of matches but not for the whole match," Slutsky told reporters afterwards. "All this week we spoke about stabilising the quality of the game, all game. But really we played very solid and we keep the high level all match.

"Today our plan worked. I watched Birmingham's last match and we understood how they play. Their formation and philosophy was good for us. I am very happy and we have plan each match, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

"I think we must have a first formation and a second formation but today is not the first time we played this formation. We played very well when pressing high up the pitch, if you remember the first goal we scored that from pressing."

The result left Hull 17th in the Championship table ahead of their trip to Norwich City when league action resumes after the international break.
