Sports Mole looks at how Liverpool could line up in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Rangers.

Liverpool will be hoping to extend their three-point gap ahead of third-placed Ajax in Group A of the Champions League when they take on Rangers at Ibrox on Wednesday.

The Reds' hopes of challenging for the Premier League title suffered another huge blow with a 3-2 defeat to league leaders Arsenal on Sunday, making their progression to the Champions League knockout stages more important than ever.

Jurgen Klopp stuck with an attacking 4-2-3-1 formation for the trip to North London, after seeing the system work reasonably effectively in its first instalment during the 2-0 win against Rangers last week.

Luis Diaz's potentially serious knee injury may impact how likely the German is to retain that system, but Roberto Firmino continued his excellent goalscoring form after replacing the Colombian late in the first half at the Emirates Stadium, and he may do so from the start in Glasgow on Wednesday.

That would necessitate Diogo Jota shifting to the left flank in order to allow Firmino to partner Darwin Nunez, who bagged his first goal since the opening day of the season against Arsenal, having looked a major threat against Rangers last week.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was withdrawn at half time on Sunday due to an ankle injury and is unlikely to recover in time to start against Rangers, meaning that Joe Gomez will deputise at right-back.

Ibrahima Konate came on for his first appearance of the season and may be handed crucial match fitness by partnering Virgil van Dijk in defence, while Fabinho could replace club captain Jordan Henderson in midfield.

Liverpool possible starting lineup: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Fabinho, Thiago; Salah, Firmino, Jota; Nunez
