Everton manager Frank Lampard has given his honest thoughts on the controversial penalty decision during the recent 1-0 defeat against Manchester City.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has given his thoughts on the controversial penalty call during their defeat against Manchester City.

The Toffees were beaten 1-0 by the league leaders following a late Phil Foden goal, but following that there was an appeal for a penalty after the ball hit Rodri's outstretched arm inside the box.

In the end, VAR opted not to give the decision, and they did not instruct the on-field referee Paul Tierney to go and check the monitor either, which led to frustration in the Goodison Park home dugout.

"VAR have two minutes to look at it and to think they have not given that as a penalty when it strikes him on the arm, in an unnatural position. I have a three-year-old daughter at home who could tell you that was a penalty," the Everton boss told Sky Sports:

"We have lost a point because of a professional who cannot do his job right. It is so incompetent to get it wrong. It was the clearest penalty you could give, arm is out, great, below the sleeve, great, I was waiting for the penalty.

"I will wait for the statement or apology they do when things are wrong but it will mean nothing."

Everton will be back in action on Thursday night when they compete against Boreham Wood in the FA Cup.
