Wayne Rooney 'to be benched for Arsenal clash'

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly overlook Wayne Rooney for this weekend's meeting with Arsenal.

Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney will reportedly start this weekend's clash with Arsenal on the bench, despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic's suspension.

Jose Mourinho will overlook the England international in favour of Marcus Rashford when the sides meet at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime, according to The Mirror.

Rooney, who has started in just one of United's last six matches, was caught up in controversy midweek following reports that he was involved in an all-night drinking session.

Mourinho is said to have laid the blame with the Football Association for allowing Rooney to drink into the night while on England duty, but will reportedly bench the striker on Saturday.

United will also be without Antonio Valencia, Eric Bailly, and Chris Smalling against Arsenal, while Luke Shaw and Marouane Fellaini are both fitness doubts.
