Inter Milan chief hints at move for Manchester United outcast Matteo Darmian

Inter Milan could make a move for Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian in the January transfer window, according to director Piero Ausilio.

Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio has hinted that Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian is on the club's transfer list for the New Year.

The out-of-favour full-back has been handed just one appearance under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford and could depart when the transfer window reopens for business in three months' time.

Mourinho is said to have blocked a summer exit for Darmian and may do the same in January, despite the Italian often missing out on squad selection altogether as he is behind Antonio Valencia and Timothy Fosu-Mensah in the pecking order.

Inter chief Ausilio has suggested that a bid could be on the cards when the transfer window reopens, however, while Stephan Lichsteiner and Domenico Criscito are also rumoured targets for the Italian giants.

Asked if a move was close for one of the three players, he told Corriere dello Sport: "More than one I'd say... half. We evaluated some situations that were proposed to us, but then nothing came of them.

"The January transfer window is always a little odd, because there are only so many players available and we can only consider quality players who really will bring something extra to the team."

Darmian was signed by Louis van Gaal from Torino in a £12.7m deal last year, making 39 appearances under the Dutchman in all competitions.
