Benjamin Sesko is reportedly still a transfer target for Manchester United despite the forward agreeing to join RB Leipzig from Red Bull Salzburg.

Benjamin Sesko is reportedly still a transfer target for Manchester United despite the Red Devils missing out on his signature during the summer transfer window.

The 20-time English champions were heavily linked with the Slovenia international before it was announced that RB Leipzig had agreed to sign him from Red Bull Salzburg.

The 19-year-old is set to move to Leipzig next summer, with a five-year contract being agreed, but according to The Telegraph, Man United are keen to explore whether it would be possible to bring him to Old Trafford.

The report claims that the Premier League outfit view the teenager as the ideal replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, with the 37-year-old's contract at Old Trafford now being terminated.

Sesko has scored five goals and registered three assists in 16 league appearances for Salzburg this term, but he failed to find the back of the net in six outings in the group stage of the Champions League.

Any deal for the teenager would be complicated due to the agreement that is in place between Leipzig and Salzburg, but Man United allegedly believe that a move could still be possible next year.

"RB Leipzig is one of the top clubs in Germany and is gradually establishing itself among the best teams in Europe," Sesko told the club's official website when the deal was confirmed in early August.

"A special success story was written here in just a few years - and I would like to help shape it in the future. The club's focus on young players and playing attractive, attacking football suits me perfectly.

"The city, the stadium and the entire infrastructure at RB Leipzig have convinced me - in addition to the many good discussions with the club officials - that the step to Leipzig is absolutely the right one.

"But now my focus is entirely on the season in Salzburg, in which I want to develop further and be as successful as possible."

Sesko has now scored 18 goals and registered 10 assists in 63 appearances for Salzburg in all competitions.

Man United had allegedly been planning to keep hold of Ronaldo for the remainder of the season before spending big on a new centre-forward during next summer's transfer window.

However, the Portugal international's recent interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV forced the Red Devils into action, with his contract being terminated due to his criticism of the club.

Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez, Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Barcelona's Memphis Depay and PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo have also all been linked with switches to Old Trafford ahead of the January window.
