How Paris Saint-Germain could line up against Marseille

Sports Mole looks at how Paris Saint-Germain could line up for Sunday's Ligue 1 clash with Marseille at the Parc des Princes.

Paris Saint-Germain take on Marseille for this season's first edition of La Classique at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night.

The home side enter the game full of confidence going forward, having netted 13 goals across their last three matches.

Marseille, who are fourth in Ligue 1, will prove to be a testing outfit for PSG in what is always a furiously contested encounter between the two sides.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Thomas Tuchel's side could line up for the game.

POSSIBLE PSG XI vs MAR

Out: Neymar (hamstring), Idrissa Gueye (hamstring)
Doubtful: Julian Draxler (foot), Thilo Kehrer (foot)

Tuchel was able to rest a number of players during PSG's 5-0 drubbing of Club Brugge during the week and one of them was Kylian Mbappe, who came on and scored a fine goal. The Frenchman looks set to return to head the attack, while Mauro Icardi drops to the bench.

The brilliance of Angel Di Maria has been somewhat understated this term, with the Argentine scoring six goals in all competitions and providing a remarkable assist for Mbappe in Belgium.

Tuchel is likely to put the former on one flank and hand another opportunity to Pablo Sarabia, a new signing who has figured in all but one of PSG's Ligue 1 games this season. He seems to be a shoo-in for the starting XI after being rested on Tuesday.

In midfield, Marco Verratti will lead the midfield charge alongside Ander Herrera - a summer signing from Manchester United and a player who is slowly being integrated into the starting XI, with the Spaniard starting recent games against both Nice and Brugge.

An injury to Gueye, another signing who has been excellent since joining over the summer, paves the way for Marquinhos to assume his adopted position at the base of midfield, completing a midfield which possesses equal amounts of muscle and skill.

Juan Bernat has returned from injury over the last couple of weeks and played a full 90 minutes on Tuesday, which means that Tuchel will most likely rotate him for youngster Abdou Diallo, who started in PSG's 4-1 win over Nice last weekend.

Down the right, the PSG boss looks likely to once again start Thomas Meunier as the Belgian continues to build up momentum after spending a few weeks injured.

Much has been made of PSG's attacking firepower this season but their defence has been arguably just as impressive, securing 10 clean sheets from 14 games since August, which makes the selection of first-choice pair Presnel Kimpembe and Thiago Silva somewhat obvious.
