Real Sociedad move fifth with win

Real Sociedad move fifth in La Liga courtesy of a 1-0 win over Valencia this evening.

Real Sociedad have moved fifth in La Liga courtesy of a 1-0 win over Valencia this evening.

The visitors almost took the lead in a tight first half as Sofiane Feghouli went for goal from just outside the area, but his effort didn't have enough power behind it to trouble Claudio Bravo.

They came close again in the 38th minute as Jonas rose highest inside the area to connect with a corner, only to send his effort narrowly wide.

The deadlock was finally broken just after the hour mark as Jose Angel delivered a good ball into the box that Agirretxe met with his head, planting an effort past a helpless Diego Alves.

It could have been 2-0 less than 10 minutes later as Antoine Griezmann was released through for a one-on-one with the keeper, but Alves won the duel to keep his side's deficit to one.

The deficit was almost wiped out with just four minutes of normal time left as Jonas picked up the ball inside the box before seeing his initial shot blocked. The rebound fell back to the Spaniard, but he couldn't make the most of the chance as he sent his effort wide.
