Preview: Hibernian vs. Ross County - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Scottish Premiership clash between Hibernian and Ross County, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Ross County travel to Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday evening hoping to end a run of 12 league matches without a win.

Hibs, meanwhile, have only won three of their nine home matches in the top-flight this campaign, but are currently unbeaten in nine games in all competitions at Easter Road.

Hibernian's unbeaten run of nine matches in all competitions came to an end on Saturday as they narrowly lost 1-0 away at league leaders Rangers.

Jack Ross's side had won seven of their 10 away matches heading to Ibrox, but a 33rd-minute strike from Ianis Hagi was enough for the Gers to take all three points.

That defeat has seen Hibs slip down to fourth in the table, four points behind third-placed Celtic, whom they face away from home in just under two weeks' time.

Hibernian have only lost one of their last seven Scottish Premiership games against Ross County and are unbeaten in their last four home matches against them.

Ross's men, who are looking to win back-to-back home league games for the first time since October 2018, could climb back up to third place with a victory on Wednesday if Aberdeen were to lose at Livingston.

The appointment of head coach John Hughes has yet to make any difference to results for Ross County as they suffered another 2-0 loss on Saturday, this time at home to St Mirren, their fifth defeat in a row by this scoreline.

Ross County, who sit rock bottom of the Scottish Premiership, have now lost their last six league matches without scoring a goal, conceding 12 times in the process – the last time they lost seven successive league games was back in 2014.

The Staggies are also winless in their last five top-flight away matches at Hibernian since a 1-0 win in December 2012, but were able to hold on to a goalless draw in their most recent meeting against them in October earlier this season.

A much-needed victory on Saturday would be their first in the league since September and could move them to within one point of Hamilton, St Johnstone and Kilmarnock, who all currently sit on 17 points.

Team News

Hibernian goalkeeper Ofir Marciano remains out with a hamstring injury, therefore Dillon Barnes is likely to start once again.

Stevie Mallan (knee), Sean Mackie (ankle) and Jamie Murphy (hamstring) are also ruled out with injuries.

Striker Christian Doidge is back from suspension and is expected to partner Kevin Nisbet up front.

Ross County duo Josh Reid and Ross Draper were both shown red cards against St Mirren and so are suspended for Wednesday's match.

Alex Iacovitti could fill in at left-back in Reid's absence with Coll Donaldson starting at centre-back.

Draper could be replaced in the centre of midfield by Harrison Paton and Ross C Stewart may come into the starting XI on the right-wing.

Regan Charles-Cook (hamstring), Charlie Lakin (thigh) and Connor Randall (back) are also ruled out for the Staggies with injuries.

Hibernian possible starting lineup:
Barnes; McGinn, Porteous, Hanlon, Doig; Boyle, Gogic, Newell, Magennis; Doidge, Nisbet

Ross County possible starting lineup:
Laidlaw; Watson, Morris, Donaldson, Iacovitti; Stewart, Paton, Vigurs, Kelly, Gardyne; Shaw

We say: Hibernian 3-0 Ross County

Ross County will be desperate for a win and to end their disappointing run of form. However, the strike partnership of Doidge and Nisbet for Hibs is likely to cause the Staggies problems and help secure a comfortable victory.
