Burnley snatch victory over Sheffield Wednesday with late double

Late goals from Matty Taylor and Andre Gray snatch victory for Burnley, who beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 in the Championship.

Matty Taylor and Andre Gray struck late on as Burnley beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1 at Turf Moor.

Former West Ham United midfielder Taylor volleyed in Gray's cross 12 minutes before full time, before the £9m striker secured the victory with his first Burnley goal.

Former Manchester United midfielder David Jones gave the Clarets an early lead, curling home a free kick from the edge of the area past debutant Joe Wildsmith in the Wednesday goal with only seven minutes on the clock

However, Austrian striker Atdhe Nuhiu brought the Owls back level 13 minutes later, heading in Daniel Pudil's cross at the back post.

Wednesday's Italian forward Fernando Forestieri, recently signed from Watford, also had a penalty appeal turned down for the away side in the first half.

The match looked to be heading for a draw until veteran Taylor's moment of quality turned the game on its head.
