Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, in the wake of Paul Pogba's expected doping ban.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has reportedly attracted the attention of Juventus, who could make a move for the Tottenham Hotspur man in January.

The Denmark international has found game time hard to come by since Ange Postecoglou took over in North London.

Postecoglou has preferred a holding midfield duo of Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who have both started Spurs' last five league games.

Hojbjerg has played just 80 minutes of league action in five cameo appearances since the Australian took charge, despite formerly being a regular under Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.

The 28-year-old did play the full 90 minutes in their EFL Cup defeat to Fulham last month, a result which remains the club's only blemish so far this season.

In three full seasons at Tottenham, Hojbjerg missed just five league games, but along with fellow stalwarts Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris, the midfielder appears to be on borrowed time at the club.

There was plenty of transfer speculation surrounding the player towards the end of the window, as Fulham and Atletico Madrid were believed to be interested.

Fulham were expecting to lose Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich, and saw Hojbjerg as the man to come in and replace him.

However, after Palhinha's deal fell through at the eleventh hour, Fulham dropped all interest in Hojbjerg.

A deal with Atletico appeared more unlikely given that the Spanish club were unwilling to match Spurs' €30m (£26m) valuation, and instead wanted to loan the player - a deal that the Premier League club were not interested in discussing.

Hojbjerg ended up staying put, but it seems as though he will have suitors come January, and Calciomercato claims that Juventus are one club showing interest.

The report states that Hojbjerg's representatives have been testing the waters with some of Europe's biggest clubs to see if anybody could offer him a route out of Tottenham.

Juventus like the player's profile, but are put off by Spurs' valuation, which is still yet to drop, despite Hojbjerg only having just over 18 months left on his contract.

The Serie A side are set to be in the market for a midfielder due to Paul Pogba's impending doping ban.

They would not be able to pay the requested sum unless significant sales are made, and after the year that Juventus have had, they will be extra cautious not step out of line financially.

Therefore, like Atletico, Juventus' only option may be to try to sign Hojbjerg on loan, with potential additional fees to persuade Spurs.

Hojbjerg is expected to line up as one of the Spurs substitutes again this weekend when they face Liverpool on Saturday.
