Real Sociedad strike late to beat Valencia

Mikel Oyarzabal scores in the 94th minute as Real Sociedad record a 1-0 win at Valencia in week 38's first fixture in La Liga.

Mikel Oyarzabal scored in the fourth minute of stoppage time at the end of the second period as Real Sociedad ended their La Liga season with a 1-0 victory against Valencia on Friday night.

The result has moved Sociedad into eighth position in the table, while a 16th league defeat of the season has left former Spanish champions Valencia in 11th.

Valencia did not manage a single shot on target at the Mestalla, and it was Sociedad that continued to look the most likely to make the breakthrough after a disappointing first 45 minutes of action.

The home side's best chance of the night fell to Santi Mina in the 73rd minute, but the striker could only fire wide of the post from a narrow angle, before Alvaro Negredo missed the target late on.

Sociedad struck in the 94th minute, however, when Oyarzabal turned home from close range after Bruma had a strike blocked into the path of the 19-year-old, who scored his seventh league goal of the season from inside the box.
