FC Ingolstadt 04 strike in stoppage time for victory

Moritz Hartmann scores a stoppage-time penalty to hand FC Ingolstadt 04 a 1-0 win over Werder Bremen.

Moritz Hartmann scored a stoppage-time winner from the penalty spot as FC Ingolstadt 04 claimed a 1-0 victory over Werder Bremen.

Assani Lukimya-Mulongoti made the vital mistake late on to gift Ingolstadt the penalty and the hosts would end the match with 10 men after Philipp Bargfrede picked up a red card.

The win could have been secured much sooner had the visitors not been frustrated by Felix Wiedwald, who produced a stunning early save to deny Stefan Lex.

Bremen soon began to control the tempo of the match, but despite dominating possession either side of the interval, the Ingolstadt defence rarely looked troubled.

It was the away side who started to create the better chances as the second half progressed, and the home fans were relieved to see Alfredo Morales miss the post by just a few inches with a curling effort.

The drama was saved for stoppage time as Lukimya-Mulongoti handed a penalty to Ingolstadt by foolishly pulling down Lex inside the box.

Hartmann refused to allow the pressure to make a difference from 12 yards and he fired home to clinch the points for his side.

However, the disappointment was not over for Bremen, who lost Bargfrede to a red card moment later when he caught Morales with a dangerous challenge as Ingolstadt held on for the win.
