Paul Lambert 'on verge of being named new Wolverhampton Wanderers manager'

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly on the verge of appointing Paul Lambert as the club's new manager.

Paul Lambert is reportedly on the verge of being appointed as Wolverhampton Wanderers' new manager.

The 47-year-old Scotsman is believed to have been on a three-man shortlist, which also included ex-Derby County boss Nigel Pearson and former Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood.

Following two interviews with sporting director Kevin Thelwell and director Jeff Shi, Lambert has been chosen as the preferred candidate, with his agent ironing out some final points before the job is offered, according to BBC Sport.

Lambert, who has years of managing at Championship level, has been out of work since leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season in May.

Wolves sacked Walter Zenga last week after just 87 days in charge, during which the team recorded four wins, four draws and six defeats.

It is believed that Lambert will not be announced as the new manager until after Saturday's league game against Derby County at Molineux, which will be overseen by temporary boss Rob Edwards.

Wolves currently sit 17th in the Championship, three points above the relegation zone.
