Arizona Cardinals sign John Carlson

Cardinals sign John Carlson

The Arizona Cardinals have signed former Minnesota Vikings tight end John Carlson on a two-year deal.

The Vikings released Carlson on Wednesday having failed to come to an agreement with him over a restructured contract that would save them salary cap space.

Carlson signed a five-year, $25m (£14.9m) deal with the Vikings in 2012 and restructured it before the 2013 campaign, but the two parties could not come to terms for a second straight season, resulting in his release.

The 29-year-old was due to earn $5m (£3m) with the Vikings next season, but instead has now joined the Cardinals on a two-year contract worth a reported $4m (£2.4m).

He has struggled with injuries throughout his career, missing the entire 2011 season with the Seattle Seahawks before also missing a chunk of his debut campaign with the Vikings and seeing promising signs last year come to an end due to concussion issues.
