New South Wales Premier Mike Baird has confirmed that the state memorial service for Australia batsman Phil Hughes has been cancelled.
The 25-year-old passed away almost a fortnight ago with serious head injuries just two days after getting struck by a bouncer bowled by Sean Abbott during a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Plans had been put in place to honour the cricketer in a state memorial service, but after consultation with Hughes's family, it was deemed that there was no need for a service after around 5,000 people attended the batsman's funeral in Macksville last week.
"All parties felt that given the enormous outpouring of support at last Wednesday's funeral, a state memorial service would no longer need to be held," BBC Sport quotes Baird as saying.
Australia have paid tribute to Hughes by naming him as the 13th man in the squad for their first Test against India, which begins tomorrow.
