Team GB pair miss out on 3m springboard final

Team GB's Hannah Starling and Rebecca Gallantree drop out of the women's 3m springboard at the semi-final stage.

Team GB's Hannah Starling and Rebecca Gallantree have dropped out of the women's 3m springboard at the semi-final stage.

Starling, the youngest competitor at 17 years old, put up a brave fight to remain in contention for the last 12, but ended up missing out by 0.75 of a mark.

The tenacious teenager impressed the judges with a forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist in the final round, though her overall score of 313.95 was only good enough for 13th place.

Gallantree struggled to find form, and was marked down for her execution on several of her dives. She came in 18th with a final score of 267.10.

China's Wu Minxia goes in the final as the clear favourite, having finished in first place in the semi with an impressive score of 394.40.

Her compatriot Zi He had an off day by her own her own high standards, missing out on second place to Tania Cagnotto of Italy.
