Wu Minxia has won the gold medal for China in the women's 3m springboard to maintain her country's dominance of the Olympic diving.

The 26-year-old was in fine form throughout the contest, barely faltering on any of her dives for a final points haul of 414.00.

Wu's compatriot Zi He faced little competition for second place going into the final round, claiming silver for her score of 379.20.

There was a hard fought-contest for the bronze, with just two points separating three divers going into the final round.

Italy's Tania Cagnotto looked odds on to take third place at the expense of Laura Sanchez Soto of Mexico, but the latter won over the judges with an exceptional forward 2 1/2 somersault 1 twist to make the podium by 0.2 of a point.

China have now claimed five gold medals for diving at London 2012.
